An anxiety treatment approach as unique as your family.

We all experience worry from time to time. The truth is that worry is a normal part of life. In fact, if we never worried, that would be a problem! But sometimes our worries start to grow so big they take over our daily lives. Leaving the house, going to school, meeting new people - even ordering our favorite food at a restaurant! - can become difficult or feel nearly impossible. When worry starts to impact daily activities and your overall happiness, it’s time to find help.

Feeling Stuck? Give us a call, we can help.

Some studies show that more than 30% of individuals will be affected by an anxiety disorder during their lifetime. When children are facing a challenge that feels overwhelming, it can be hard to identify and communicate exactly what’s happening. Anxiety comes out as irritability or anger, tears, or even physical discomfort like headaches or stomachaches. As adults we do this, too: Instead of tackling our worries head-on, we act out, avoid, or have a difficult time managing our emotions. Anxiety takes over and the life we dream of having seems impossible to achieve.

Why Wonder Within?

At Wonder Within Counseling, we believe in empowering children and their parents to build on the strengths they already have to learn ways to overcome anxiety. We shore up your skills so when worry shows up (as it will), it doesn’t stop you. We're here to work with you and your child, celebrating your victories and supporting the whole family as you triumph over what seemed impossible.

FAQs

Who comes to see you, me or my child?

That depends! At Wonder Within we use an evidence-based approach. New research shows that working with parents of children who are anxious is equally as effective in treating childhood anxiety as working directly with anxious children. So, sometimes the best fit for your family is for your child to attend one of our skills groups. Other times, the first step is working with you as the parent directly, so you can best support your anxious child. Maybe the right fit for your family is a combination of both. Part of your consultation call and intake process will include determining, together, the best approach for your family.

What can I expect at my first appointment?

Your first appointment will last approximately 55 minutes. In the meeting, we’ll gather a better idea of who you are and what brings you to counseling. We’ll ask questions about your past, present, and what your hopes are for the future of your family. Together, we come up with a plan for therapy.

How long is a typical session? How often will we meet?

Each individual counseling session is 50 minutes long. We meet with most people either every week or every other week. Groups meet for 8-weeks in a row, at 50-minutes each week. Whether individual or group, we use evidence-based, behavioral interventions. Because of this, the focus is on progress in treatment and typically includes assignments. If you aren’t noticing gains, we’ll talk about this and work together to come up with a plan that better serves you.

Do you accept insurance?

I am an out-of-network provider. While some people may choose to submit a superbill to their insurer for reimbursement, please note that different insurance companies reimburse at different rates (or not at all). Regardless of the insurer, to receive reimbursement you must have a mental disorder diagnosis. Though evidence shows that almost all people benefit from talk therapy, not all of my clients meet criteria for a mental disorder.
